
According to an recent article from Front Office Sports, NBA ratings are down BIG this year. Well, NBA fans, its about to get worse…thanks to the NFL.
The NFL is broadcasting 2 games this year on December 25th. Both games will be shown on the streaming behemoth, Netflix, who has been dipping their toe in sports media rights for some time now.
So what does this mean for the NBA? Well, after 17 years of television dominance on the best holiday ever, The Association will have to share (or even fight for) eyeballs and audiences with the NFL. With viewership already heading in the wrong direction and on a day typically seen as a viewership “layup” for the NBA, things might be going from bad to worse really quick.
Although this is not the first time the NFL has hosted games on Christmas, the league has taken incredible measures to make sure folks tune in this year: Beyoncé will perform at halftime of the Ravens and Texans game while Mariah Carey was recently announced as the headline performer for Netflix Christmas Gameday. Take that, Adam Silver!
